This comes amid a boycott trend against Aamir Khan's Laal Singh Chaddha that began after a section of the Internet dug out Aamir Khan's 2015 interview, where he said that his ex-wife Kiran Rao had suggested they move out of India owing to "growing intolerance."
Laal Singh Chaddha is the official Hindi remake of Hanks' Forrest Gump.
It has been directed by Advait Chandan and is collaboratively being produced by Aamir Khan, Kiran Rao and Viacom 18 Motion Pictures.
In Laal Singh Chaddha, Aamir Khan will be seen sharing screen space with his 3 Idiots co-stars Kareena Kapoor Khan and Mona Singh. It also stars Naga Chaitanya.
The film was released worldwide on August 11.
The official page of The Academy gave a special mention to Laal Singh Chaddha with a montage of shots from both Aamir's film and Forrest Gump. The caption read: "Robert Zemeckis and Eric Roth's sweeping story of a man who changes the world with simple kindness receives an Indian adaptation in Advait Chandan and Atul Kulkarni's Laal Singh Chaddha starring Aamir Khan in the title role made famous by Tom Hanks."
