Indian actress Madhura Naik has said that Hamas members have killed her sister Odaya and her husband in front of their children during the ongoing conflict with Israel.

Sharing images of the family, the actress, who is a Jew of Indian-origin, said: "Odaya, my sister and her husband were brutally murdered by a Hamas terrorist in front of their children, and were found dead today (Sunday)."

"Deeply saddened by the tragic loss of our beloved cousin in the terror attack. Her warmth, kindness, and love will always be remembered. Our thoughts and prayers are with her and all the victims. May they rest in peace," she said in an emotional post.

The actress also shared a separate video on the issue and said: "As of today, Israel is in pain and the streets are burning in flames in the wrath of Hamas."

The Israel-Hamas conflict

Since the brutal attack on Oct 7, at least 1,200 people have died in Israel, according to the IDF, and 900 people have died in Gaza, according to the Palestinian Ministry of Health, said CNN.

A total of 2,741 injured people were treated in Israeli hospitals since Saturday, including many in critical conditions.

A total of 4,949 rockets have been launched at Israel since Saturday, the Israeli state-run media Kan TV said.

According to Israeli Defence Forces, about 1,500 bodies of Hamas militants were found in southern Israel.

Hamas on Saturday launched a surprise attack on Israeli towns adjacent to the Gaza Strip, prompting Israel to launch retaliatory strikes on Gaza.

More than 100,000 people have been displaced so far, according to reports.

Israel PM Benjamin Netanyahu earlier gave a strong message to the world when he equated Hamas with ISIS and vowed that his country would defeat the 'terrorists'.

What is Hamas?

Hamas, the Palestine Islamist group which governs Gaza and attacked Israel on Oct 7, 2023, is an offshoot of the Sunni Muslim Brotherhood in the late 1980s.

The militant group defeated its political rival Fatah (which officially renounced violence) in the 2006 elections and took over the Gaza Strip, a  41-km-long and 10-km-wide territory between Israel, Egypt and the Mediterranean Sea, inhabited by about  2.3 million people in one of the most densely populated regions of the world. Since 2006, Hamas has been ruling the Gaza Strip without elections.

The United States and European Union have designated Hamas as a terrorist organization which believes in violence as a means to liberate Palestinian territories from Israel and propagates the eradication of the state of Israel.
