BJP's Mandi candidate for Lok Sabha polls Kangana Ranaut denies beef eating allegations from her past
Bollywood actress and BJP candidate from Himachal Pradesh's Mandi Lok Sabha seat, Kangana Ranaut, on Monday rebutted Congress' allegation of her having consumed beef in the past. Ranaut declared she is a "proud Hindu" who does not consume beef or any other red meat.
Rejecting Congress leader Vikramditya Singh's allegations, the "Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi" actress stated on her official X handle: "I don’t consume beef or any other kind of red meat, it is shameful that completely baseless rumours are being spread about me, I have been advocating and promoting yogic and Ayurvedic way of life for decades now such tactics won’t work to tarnish my image. My people know me and they know that I am a proud Hindu and nothing can ever mislead them, Jai Shri Ram."
Singh had referred to an earlier interview by the actress where she was quoted as saying that she relishes beef despite her mother's objection.
Numerous posts on X have surfaced since with links and photos of her past interviews where she could be seen talking about food.
Kangana had reportedly turned vegan some years back.
As per one of her reportedly May 2019 post on former Twitter handle (@KanganaTeam), she is said to have advocated eating beef and she did not link it to religion.
The post apparently has since been deleted. People have used screenshot of her former tweets to remind her about her past comments.
"There is nothing wrong with eating beef or eating any other meat. It is not about religion....," she said where she also mentioned that she had turned vegan eight years prior to this Twitter post.
