Bad Newz: Hrithik Roshan's shoutout to Tauba Tauba is like Oscars to me, says Vicky Kaushal
Bollywood's one of the most versatile actors now, Vicky Kaushal surprised many with his dancing steps to Tauba Tauba track from Bad Newz. IBNS-TWF correspondent Souvik Ghosh brings you Vicky's thoughts on the film, Tauba Tauba and more...
Q. How fun was it to shoot this film?
A. It was damn fun, honestly. The members of this film are like my family. It's been such a joyful journey. We carried a lot of joy on the set. It might sound cliche but working with Triptii (Triptii Dimri) and Ammy (Ammy Virk) have been a joyride for me. We three never had ice to break. It seems a film has been made out of three of us, who were having fun like kids on the set.
Q. You are mostly seen playing diverse roles onscreen. What made you agree to work on a mainstream, commercial film like Bad Newz?
A. Firstly, for me, shooting this film was like home because people with whom I have collaborated in this project impart a feel-good vibe. Apart from this, it was a good script to work on, the concept was new and I wanted to explore comedy, the genre which I haven't explored. Apart from being an actor, Anand is a phenomenal director when it comes to comedy especially. So I was also feeling good about surrendering to him when it was a comedy film. A lot of things were new to me so I just surrendered to the film without much thought.
Q. Were you surprised by the storyline where a woman gets pregnant by two men?
A. I had wondered whether the storyline is backed by a scientific possibility or has it happened in the past or is completely fictitious.
Q. Some people feel the depiction of one getting pregnant with two men is misleading for youth, especially girls. How do you respond to it?
A. We have had three minutes to show the trailer to the film. All the moralities and ethics are taken care of. Once the audience watches the film, all those questions will be answered. I will let the film do the talking. I would request everyone to watch the film so that all their doubts get cleared.
Q. Tauba Tauba is an internet sensation now with people making reels on it. You have also received a shoutout from Hrithik Roshan. How was the feeling?
A. I was overwhelmed by the audience's response in a positive way. The box office collections are great but we truly give efforts for this kind of a response from the audience. So it feels great when we are showered with love.
Talking about Hrithik sir, he is the God of dancing in the country as well as the world. He has been an inspiration for me. A pat on my back from him is equivalent to the Oscars to me. So it meant the world to me.
Q. You do versatile films. How do you switch between genres?
A. I think every actor has a hunger to play diverse roles, reach out to the audience and prove oneself. I am lucky enough to get diverse roles and work with different directors. My personal favourite genre is drama which has emotions and actions. But in comedy, an actor gets a lot of confidence once he excels. We have seen legendary actors like Govinda, Akshay-sir (Akshay Kumar), even Diljit-paji (Diljit Dosanjh). They have been absolutely fantastic with comedy. I have tried in my own way. It's a homage to the great comedy films which we have seen over the years. We have tried our hands to that. If people do accept and love this film, it will boost our confidence a lot and will keep trying comedy even more.
Q. Would you like to comment on the rumour that you and Katrina Kaif are going to become parents?
A. Let the audience enjoy Bad Newz for now (laughs). We won't shy away from giving that news when the time comes. Till then, there is no truth to the speculation, which is coming from the media (laughs).
