Malaika Arora says family is in 'deep shock' after her father commits suicide

Mumbai/IBNS: Bollywood actress Malaika Arora, whose father Anil Mehta died by committing suicide on Wednesday morning, said the family is in deep shock and requested to respect their privacy at this time.

"We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of our dear father, Anil Mehta. He was a gentle soul, a devoted grandfather, a loving husband and our best friend. Our family is in deep shock by this loss and we kindly request privacy from the media and well-wishers during this difficult time. We appreciate your understanding, support and respect. With gratitude, Joyce, Malaika, Amrita Shakeel, Arhaan, Azaan, Rayyan, Casper, Axl, Duffy and Buddy."

Anil Arora jumped off his apartment building earlier in the morning which is located in Mumbai's Bandra.

Several celebrities including Malaika's sister Amrita, close friend Kareena Kapoor Khan and Kajol visited the actress at her father's residence. 

Malaika's ex-husband Arbaz Khan also visited the bereaved family. 

Malaika's parents got divorced when she was 11 years old.

After her parents' divorce, the actress moved to Chembur with her mother and sister.

Malaika Arora is best known for her dance performances in Chaiya Chaiya, Munni Badnaam Hui, Anarkali Disco Chali and Hello Hello among many others. She also hosted reality TV series Moving In With Malaika.
