Kolkata, Sept 11 (IBNS): Filmmaker Madhur Bhandarkar has said the lives of calendar girls inspired him to make his upcoming film 'Calendar Girls'.

Promoting the movie in Kolkata on Thursday, the director said: "What intrigued me most is when I came across few calendars launched by Vijay Mallya, and the thing which attracted me was that the name and fame for a calendar girl remains for a year tenure and that’s when I started probing into it and thought of directing a film on calendar girls which portrays the life journey of five calendar girls.”

The leading ladies of the movie Akansha Puri, Satarupa Pyne, Kyra Dutt, Ruhi Singh and Avni Modi were present at the event with the director.

Bhandarkar said the film will shock movie lovers.

“There are some subjects or issues in the society which should come through women. There will be a lot of regulations made and things shown in the movie will shock the viewers all in all it is an emotional story and a story about hope,” he added.

Set to release on Sept 25, ‘Calendar Girls’ essays the story of five models, who go through various phases from fame to anonymity.

It stars Akanksha Puri, Avani Modi, Kyra Dutt, Ruhi Singh and Satarupa Pyne in pivotal roles. Produced by Sangeeta Ahir’s Manglmurti Films, ‘Calendar Girls’ is directed by Madhur Bhandarkar.
