Udta Punjab collects Rs 33.80 crore on opening weekend

Mumbai, Jun 20 (IBNS): Shahid Kapoor and Alia Bhatt starrer 'Udta Punjab,' the controversial film that risked getting shelved, dished out a strong performance at the Box Ofiice, collecting Rs 33.80 crore on its opening weekend.

Presenting a strong performance in Punjab and Delhi, the movie collected Rs 12.50 crore on Sunday, the highest of the three days' collection, reports said.  

Critic and business analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted, "#UdtaPunjab witnessed GOOD escalation on Sun... Maintained STRONG grip in Punjab and Delhi... Plexes of big cities also BIG contributors..."

"#UdtaPunjab has 5th HIGHEST OPENING WEEKEND of 2016... Fri 10.05 cr, Sat 11.25 cr, Sun 12.50 cr. Total: ₹ 33.80 cr. India biz," a second tweet read.

By virtue of the collection, the movie now ranks fifth in this year's opening weekend collection by Indian movies. Akshay Kumar's slapstick comedy Housefull 3 ranks at the top, followed by Shar Rukh khan starrer Fan.
