80 years of Debaki Bose's Seeta celebrated

Kolkata, Aug 31 (IBNS) Tapan Sinha Foundation and Debaki Bose Memorial committee celebrated 80 years of the Hindi film "Sita" (first Indian film to receive an international award), which was made by Debaki Bose, one of the doyens and pioneers of Indian cinema, recently at Nandan 2 auditorium.
West Bengal Urban Development Minister Firhad Hakim, painter Subhaprasanna Bhattyachariya, actress Riya Sen, Devi Prashad Bose, son of Debaki Basu, and others were present at the event.
 
The Hindi film Seeta, starring Prithviraj Kapoor and Durga Khote, had won the gold medal at the 3rd International Exhibition of Cinematic Art at Venice Film Festival in 1934. This film was produce by East India Company the same year.
 
Late Debaki Bose, also known as Debaki Kumar Bose, was  director, writer, actor from Kolkata who was known for his innovative use of sound and music in Indian cinema.
