Bollywood actor Om Puri passes away

New Delhi, Jan 6 (IBNS): Bollywood actor Om Puri passed away on Friday, media reports said.

According to reports, he died due to heart attack. He was 66. 

Om Puri had appeared in numerous mainstream commercial films in Bollywood after starting his career with mostly arthouse movies. He also acted in Pakistani,  British, and Hollywood films.

His credits also include appearances in American films.

He had been awarded Padma Shri, the fourth highest civilian award of India.

Om Puri was born in Ambala, Haryana, to a Punjabi family on Oct 18, 1950.

He made his film debut in the 1976 Marathi film Ghashiram Kotwal, based on a Marathi play of the same name by Vijay Tendulkar.

He later continued to act in movies like Aakrosh,Gandhi,Mirch Masala,Narsimha,The Ghost and the Darkness,My Son the Fanatic and many more.

Om Puri was known to his fans for his brilliant acting skills.

Bollywood celebrities were shocked by the death of the actor and expressed their sadness over social networkign site.

Actor Anupam Kher tweeted: "Seeing him lying on his bed looking so calm can’t believe that one of our greatest actors #OmPuri is no more. Deeply saddened & shocked."

Filmmaker Madhur Bhandarkar said: "Shocked to know that the immensely talented actor #OmPuri passed away. Big loss to our film industry. RIP."
