Oscars Best Picture mistake: Academy issues apology
In a statement issued by the Academy, it said: "We deeply regret the mistakes that were made during the presentation of the Best Picture category during last night’s Oscar ceremony. We apologize to the entire cast and crew of La La Land and Moonlight whose experience was profoundly altered by this error."
It said: "We salute the tremendous grace they displayed under the circumstances. To all involved — including our presenters Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway, the filmmakers, and our fans watching worldwide — we apologize."
The Oscar witnessed a bizarre moment when Warren Beatty announced the wrong name in the Best Picture category before correcting the mistake.
It was a dramatic moment on stage when 'La La Land' was named the best picture of the night.
Soon the mistake was understood and Moonlight was then named the best movie of the year.
Moonlight is an Academy award winning film drama film from 2016 directed by Barry Jenkins, based on the play In Moonlight Black Boys Look Blue by Tarell Alvin McCraney, and written by both.
