Mumbai, June 2 (IBNS): The police on Saturday said actor Arbaaz Khan has admitted he used to put bet during Indian Premier League matches.
Khan was reportedly questioned by the police in Maharashtra's Thane.
He made the revelation while he was questioned over the issue.
He has allegedly lost Rs. 2.80 crore to a bookie, media reports said.
A senior police officer told Hindustan Times that Arbaaz, who is also the brother of superstar Salman Khan, has been summoned following the arrest of bookie Sonu Jalan aka Sonu Batla.
Busting a betting ring, the police have recently arrested 42-year old Jalan, who allegedly operated from the country as well as abroad.
Senior police inspector Pradeep Sharma told Hindustan Times that, "During investigation, it was found that Arbaaz was being threatened by Jalan as he had lost money on one of the matches."
Couple of days after Jalan's arrest, Thane anti-extortion cell got hold of a diary which featured phone numbers of 100 bookies. The diary also had the name of a Bollywood celebritiy.
Sharma has been further quoted by Hindustan Times as saying, "Jalan had arranged a match-fixing meeting at Dubai. The celebrity was also present at that time. We are probing to know which match was fixed and who all were involved."
IPL is one of the most profitable cricket tournaments around the world. The T20 tournament kicked-off in India in 2008.
