Mumbai, Jul 4 (IBNS): Bollywood actress Sonali Bendre took to Twitter on Wednesday to announce that she has been diagnosed with “high-grade cancer”.

According to her statement, she is undergoing treatment in New York.

The 43-year-old Bendre posted a picture of her and her husband-film producer Goldie Behl, accompanied by a long caption that tells how she got aware of the disease, the treatment she is undergoing and the support she is receiving from her family and friends.

"Sometimes when you least expect it, life throws you a curveball. I have recently been diagnosed with high-grade cancer, that has metastised, which we frankly did not see coming," she tweeted.

"A niggling pain led to some tests which led to this unexpected diagnosis."

"My family and close friends have rallied around me, providing the best support system that anyone can ask for. I am very blessed and thankful for each of them. There is no better way to tackle this than to take swift and immediate action," Bendre tweeted.

" I am currently undergoing a course of treatment in New York. We remain optimistic and I am determined to fight every step of the way... I am tackling this battle head-on, knowing I have the strength of my family and friends behind me," the actor said.

Known for her soothing beauty, Bendre received critical acclaim for her performances in Diljale in 1996, followed by Bhai (1997), Sarfarosh, Zakhm, Duplicate, Kadhalar Dhinam (Tamil film), Hum Saath-Saath Hain: We Stand United (1999), Tera Mera Saath Rahen (2001) and Anahat (2003) among others.
