Priya Entertainments to screen Goopy Gyne Bagha Byne today on Satyajit Ray's birth anniversary

Kolkata, May 2 (IBNS): Priya Entertainments Pvt Ltd will organise a special screening of iconic Bengali film Goopy Gyne Bagha Baine on the occasion of late filmmaker Satyajit Ray's 98th birth anniversary on Thursday.

The screening will be preceded by a panel discussion on Ray with film personalities at 7:15 pm at Priya Cinema Hall.

Ray directorial Goopy Gyne Bagha Byne, a fantasy, adventure, comedy film, was released in 1969. The film was based on a story by Ray's grandfather Upendrakishore Ray Chowdhury.

Ray, born in Kolkata (then Calcutta), directed 36 films during his career.

He began his film career as director with Pather Panchali in 1955. With Pather Panchali, Aparajito and Apur Sansar, he created the Apu trilogy.

Some of his other works include Jalsaghar, Kanchenjungha, Charulata, Mahanagar, Teen Kanya, Abhijan, Kapurush and Mahapurush.

Ray, who was also conferred the Academy Awards, worked with legendary Bengali actor Uttam Kumar in Nayak after 1966.

In later part of his career, Ray directed films like Aranyer Din Ratri, Hirak Rajar Deshe, Ghare Baire.

He had also worked for Hindi film Shatranj Ke Khilari.
