Lata Mangeshkar and family 'safe' after reports say BMC sealed residential building as precautionary measure
Mumbai/IBNS: Iconic singer Lata Mangeshkar and her family are “safe”, a statement from the Mangeshkars clarified, after reports said Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) sealed their residential building Prabhukunj on Saturday as a precautionary measure amid the coronavirus pandemic.
"Please do not react to any hearsay on the health of our family members, especially. We, as a building society in unison, are taking utmost caution, care and co-operating to ensure the well-being and safety of all the senior citizens especially, and all the other residing members as well. By God's grace and the wishes of so many, the family is safe," the statement read.
The family said they received numerous calls after news spread that Prabhukunj was sealed by BMC, and informed that the building society and the BMC had sealed it right from the onset of the outbreak to safeguard the health of the senior citizens staying there.
"We have been inundated by calls all evening inquiring whether Prabhukunj is sealed. The Building Society and the BMC have sealed it from the onset of the epidemic as we have senior citizens at home and in the building, and it is mandatory to take these precautions. Even our usual festive Ganesha celebrations were a simple familial one this time, to cooperate and support social distancing," the statement added.
Lata Mangeshkar had posted a picture where she is seen worshipping Lord Ganesha on the occasion of Ganesh Chaturthi.
In July, the BMC had sealed the properties of Amitabh Bachchan after the actor, his son Abhishek Bachchan, daughter-in-law Aishwarya Rai and his eight-year-old granddaughter tested coronavirus positive.
Around the same time, the civic body also sealed and sanitised the residence of actor Rekha after one of her staff tested positive for the virus.
Actor Amir Khan, and producers Karan Johar and Boney Kapoor had also announced that their staff had tested positive for coronavirus.
