Southern superstar Rajinikanth has been admitted to a hospital in Chennai for an elective procedure scheduled for Tuesday, media reports said.

There has been no official confirmation on the matter from the actor or the private hospital.

Hospital sources told The Indian Express that the 73-year-old veteran actor was stable.

Elective surgery or elective procedure is surgery that is scheduled in advance because it does not involve a medical emergency.

Known professionally as Rajinikanth, the superstar is an Indian actor who predominantly works in Tamil cinema.

In a career spanning over five decades, he has done 170 films[c] that includes films in Tamil, Hindi, Telugu, Kannada, Bengali, and Malayalam.

He is widely regarded to be one of the most successful and popular actors in the history of Indian cinema.

The actor is currently busy shooting for director Lokesh Kanagaraj’s Coolie.

Several teaser posters of the film were revealed recently.
