Kolkata: The trailer of SVF and Srijit Mukherji’s much awaited thriller, Dwitiyo Purush , released on Sunday amidst major audience anticipation , with a hint at a brilliant start to the year 2020 for all Bengali cinema lovers.

Nine  years ago, SVF and director Srijit Mukherji created a masterpiece called Baishey Srabon that became a sensation among the genre of thrillers.

Now a nearly a decade later, the makers are back with its spin-off Dwitiyo Purush that promises to traverse more dangerous territories.

The story of Dwitiyo Purush will commence from where Baishey Srabon had left off and will see actor Parambrata Chattopadhyay reprise the role of chief detective Abhijit Pakarashi and Raima Sen will bring back her character Amrita, Abhijit’s love interest. Also, returning to the role of Surya will be Bengali actor Abir Chatterjee who has a special appearance in the film.

A lot of new and powerful faces surface in the trailer of the film. Popular Bengali actor Anirban Bhattacharya surprises everyone with the dangerous look of a character named Khoka, who is synonymous with violence. So is the character essayed by rising star Rwitobroto Mukherjee.

He sheds his boy-next-door avatar to look intimidating and fearsome.

Also seen in the trailer are actors Babul Supriyo and Kamaleswar Mukherjee.

The trailer starts with a voiceover from veteran superstar Prosenjit Chatterjee, (who had essayed the iconic character of Prabir Roychowdhury in Baishey Srabon), bidding adieu to everyone, thus signifying the beginning of a new chapter.

The story moves to a situation in Kolkata where a series of serial killings plague the city again after 25 years of its first occurrence and Abhijit Pakrashi (Parambrata) is given the task of unearthing the killer.

Thus, ensues an unpredictable journey to find the murderer. The trailer ends with the message that this film is” not for the faint-hearted...not for the soft spoken.... not for the mild minded” Interestingly, to carry the legacy of Baishey Srabon forward, the trailer of Dwitiyo Purush was inaugurated online by Prabir Roychowdhury aka Prosenjit Chatterjee.

Optimistic about the much-awaited spin-off, Mahendra Soni, Co-founder & Director, SVF said, “Dwitiyo Purush will be our first release of 2020 and what a brilliant story to start the year with. The trailer has been so well received that I can already imagine the audience’s excitement to watch the film on the big screen. Knowing Srijit, this audience should expect the unexpected! "

Talking about his new venture, National Award-winning director Srijit Mukherji said, “Directing Dwitiyo Purush felt like a re-union with my old teammates (Param, Raima, Abir, Anupam Roy) with whom I had started the journey of making thrillers with Baishey Srabon. I want to especially thank Bumba Da (Prosenjit Chatterjee) for launching my trailer online with whom Baishey Srabon had ended and with whom Dwitiyo Purush gets a welcome, making it a full circle. But I promise you, this story will be darker and gripping than its predecessor!”

Dwitiyo Purush, directed by Srijit Mukherji, is slated to release on Jan 23 2020 as the first official release of SVF for 2020. The music of the film has been rendered by National Award-Winning Musician Anupam Roy.
