Kolkata/IBNS: 'Niharika (In the Mist)' is a story of a common life journey but with layers, says young actress Anuradha Mukherjee who plays the protagonist in the upcoming Bengali film directed by Indrasis Acharya.

The trailer, which captures in brief the journey of a girl (played by Anuradha) from a "dark childhood" to "evolution", was unveiled by the makers on Thursday.

Speaking of her character, Anuradha said, "My character lives 'in the mist' just like the title, but how she evolves at the end forms the crux of the story. Not all of us are complete black and white in nature. My character is surrounded by people with shades. 'Niharika' is a story of a common life journey but very much layered."

"In my own character, I have grey shades, complications and emotions often work differently," the actress replied, when she was asked how much she could relate to her role.

'Niharika', which features singer-actor Shilajit Mazumdar, Anindya Sengupta in pivotal roles, showcases how a woman fights a dark and abusive childhood and then goes on searching for herself.

Giving a glimpse of what is in store for the audience, Acharya said, "It's a journey of a woman whose childhood was dark and was exploited by her relatives. To find solace, she gets engaged in a number of relationships irrespective of gender....

"The girl growing up later in a desolate place without any male surrounding, balancing mental and physical needs, career, upbringing all together have been webbed."

Back home, 'Niharika' is slated for July 21 release.
