Kolkata/IBNS: The trailer of actress Puja Banerjee's upcoming web series Cabaret was unveiled by the makers on Friday.

Cabaret, which is directed by Utsav Mukherjee, is a period drama set in Calcutta and other parts of West Bengal in the time frame of 1960s and 1970s.

Cabaret promises to be an emotional journey of a young girl from a remote village to claim the crown of the best cabaret dancer of Calcutta.

For the first time, Puja will be seen playing the role of a Cabaret dancer.

Speaking at the trailer launch, Puja said, "This project is special to me because I have never played such a role before. I always try not to repeat any element of my previous characters.

"I have always loved the retro look, which I have been able to recreate. Cabaret has all the ingredients of entertainment."

Puja had earlier appeared in Bengali films like Challenge 2, Loveria, Rocky, Hoichoi Unlimited et al. She has also worked in Hindi films and television shows.

Her first web series was Paap.

Joining Puja at Cabaret trailer launch, Utsav shares, "I have tried to portray the analogue world which was there around 50 to 60 years ago.

"I have tried to capture the time frame of two worlds, one where the Naxal movement was going on in the city and the other where people were busy enjoying their food without any trace of what's happening on the flip side."

Apart from Puja, Cabaret features Shantilal Mukherjee and Satyam Bhattacharya in distinct roles.

The web series will start streaming on Addatimes from January 26.
