Indian audiences want to see wish fulfillment endings: Chironjeet
“At the end of the day the Indian audience wishes to hear the story of wish fulfillment. They want to see reunion of the characters after high drama. Belaseshe has all these elements in equal measure with touch of sentiment. Such relationship tales with reflection of real life have the emotional pull for audiences,” the Chotuskone actor told IBNS at a special screening to mark the 50th day of the film at Inox, Quest Mall recently.
“We must ponder over the fact that the number of single screen theatres have whittled down to 250 from 750 in Bengal territory alone. So if there was a more possible kind of ending like the estranged characters going their different ways it won’t have clicked with the box office. A middle of the road genre film with a good story line will definitely work out. Belaseshe proves that,” the actor-MLA said.
“I cried multiple times at the tender moments. The construction of the story went parallel with our everyday lives, at least that is what the audiences think including me,” Chironjeet, a Bengali actor known for decades, said.
Actress Swastika Mukherjee, the seductress in Detective Byomkesh Bakshi, said the film’s success hinged on every member of audience connecting certain episodes with their own family drama,”
Director Shiboprosad said the success of Mani Ratnam’s ‘Roja’, which was re-adapted from his Tamil film, had proved any realistic emotional story had a crowd pull if executed properly. And it was not a Tamil copy though I have nothing against such films (copy “.
“We did not seek to consciously impart a message. But the audiences got their own inferences. Here and in other parts of the country. Will be happy if Belaseshe heralds success for other Bengali films of each and every genre,” he said.
Belaseshe, co-produced by Windows Production, stars the high-voltage cast of Soumitra Chatterjee and Swatilekha Sengupta, Rituparna Sengupta, Kharaj Mukherjee, Shankar Chakorborty and others.
The special screening was also graced by superstar Prosenjit Chatterjee, director Sandip Ray, Suman Mukhopadhyay and Kolkata Mayor Sovan Dev Chatterjee.
