I grew up listening to the basic Bangla albums : Srijit

Kolkata, Dec 25 (IBNS) Filmmaker Srijit Mukherjee credits his musical sense to the early days when he was initiated to the Bengali songs of basic albums of all leading names.
"I grew up by listening to basic albums. I got musically trained by listening to the all time greats. We all know their names," Srijit says at the album launch of young, upcoming singer Lagnajita Chakraborty here recently.

Lagnajita has delivered two intense melodies of different periods in Srijit's recent widely acclaimed hits - Chotuskon and Rajkahini.

Apportioning the blame for apparent fall in popularity in basic albums, Srijit says, "May be we are also responsible for film music, playbacks and others, overwhelming the basic albums and edging them out."

Recalling he had Lagnajita in mind for the 'Basanta Ese Gechhe' track which required an unconventional approach, Srijit says: "But now she doesn't want to be trapped within that one song fame."

"She is called as Basanta by many people and she protests I am not Basanta, I am Lagnajita. We all understand that she does not want to be restricted by that one number," the prolific director says.

Srijit also hinted about roping in Gourab Chatterjee Gabu in his future film at the launch.
