Indo-Bangladesh actress Joya Ahsan wants one cultural identity for two Bangla artistes
"I am looking forward to a day when I will no more be seen as an actor from 'Opar Bangla' (The Other Bangla) even as I work in a film where the cast and crew share the same language, food habit and colour of skin.
"And when any actor from here will be introduced as a star from India and West Bengal. I wish when such identities will cease to exist and we will be only seen as Bengali-speaking actors who have so many things in common," Joya told IBNS on the sidelines of a promotional fashion show for her film Egoler Chokh here.
"I wish my Bangladeshi actor tag will go for good one day," the doe-eyed actress who had won national awards in her country for two films- Guerrilla and Chorabali- said on during the show at The Park..
Shattered yet resilient at last month's terror attack in Holey Artisan Bakery, Joya said to a relevant question, "On a personal level I am never scared. Nor do I want to be alive with fear lurking in my mind as a human being with emotions and sentiments. We all know what happened and tried to find out why this happened but we must move forward."
Joya, who debuted in Indian film industry with Arindam Sil's 'Abarto' and then was appreciated for her role as one of the 'kothi' girls stricken by partition woes in Srijit Mukherjee's Rajkahini, said she was happy to have bagged plum roles in the work of good directors here.
"All my three portrayals in films here had been contrastingly different so far. In Abarto my character did not have as much shades as here in Egoler Chokh. But both characters were of sensitive women showing the adroitness of a director like Arindam Sil in understanding the nuances. In fact in a different way I also liked the way Srijit dealt with his protagonists in Rajkahini, I think I feel comfortable to work with both," she said not concealing her admiration for directors here.
Regarding the fashion show, where she looked resplendent in a black outfit with golden borders and walked the ramp with other cast including Saswata a'ka Shabar Chatterjee, Bickram Ghosh and former Miss Universe India 2010 Ushoshi Sengupta, Joya said she was looking forward to a fashion show where actors from two frontiers will walk side by side, hand in hand.
She blushed like any girl when told she was looking beautiful.
