Kolkata, Dec 3 (IBNS): Benche Thakar Gaan, a Bengali film from the house of Macneil Movies Pvt Ltd which was the inaugural movie of the recent Kolkata Film Festival, witnessed a starry premiere on Saturday in the presence of the lead actors and crew members at Priya Cinema Hall.

BencheThakarGaan, directed by the duo of Abhijit Guha and Sudeshna Roy, is a socially relevant film in today’s context starring Gargee Roy Chowdhury, Tota Roy Chowdhury, Paran Bandhopadhyay, Anamika Saha, Aloknanda Roy, Sohag Sen, Dwijen Banerjee, Ardhendu Banerjee, Damini Basu, Indrani Bhattacharjee and Pradip Mukherjee.

Directors Abhijit Guha and Sudeshna Roy are known for creating socially relevant films and this time they have chosen an old age home as the central point of their film. But there’s a difference in the way they have perceived an old age home. They are not looking at only a hapless group of elderly men and women who have been dumped by their children but the film is also about financially-independent old people making a choice.

“We are extremely delighted and honoured that Benche Thakar Gaan was chosen as an opening film for this year’s Kolkata International Film Festival. We are thankful to Macneil Movies for their support and cooperation. We had a wonderful experience working with the entire team of Benche Thakar Gaan. All the actors have done a splendid job in the movie. The story is about the swansong of various people’s lives who stay under the same roof in a retirement home,” said the director duo.

“As the saying goes – Content Is King, Benche Thakar Gaan truly reflects the saying in every aspect.  The film has been beautifully crafted and boasts of marvelous performances by each and every artiste. We expect the audience to enjoy the movie”, said  Pradip Churiwal of Macneill Movies Pvt Ltd,the producer of the film.

The film takes off when Dr Partha Sinha (Tota Roy Chowdhury), a single parent with a son, starts a home called Sunshine old age home where the elderly are given facilities and looked after.

In this home arrives Dr. Paromita Sen (Gargee Roy Chowdhury), a young psychiatrist, who has for some odd reason, broken up with her fiancé and has taken up the reigns of the home. Paromita, a geriatric behaviour specialist brings in a lot of sunshine in the lives of the elderly.

The music director of the film is Raja Narayan Deb and singers Prabuddha Raha, Saumya Pal Banerjee, Zinia and National award-winning singer,Jayasree Bhattacharjee have sung the songs. The other crew members are Prabhatendu Mandal in Camera, Sujay Satta Ray as Editor,  Tanmoy Chakraborty in art direction and Payel Dutta in costumes.
