Kolkata, Aug 2 (IBNS): At the premiere of his debut film Oskar, director Partha Sarathi Manna said that though the film was appreciated by his acquaintances during a private screening, he is eagerly waiting to see how general viewers take to it.

Saheb Bhattacharya, Aparajita Auddy, Kharaj Mukherjee, and Priyanshu Chatterjee are some of the key actors of the film that premiered recently in Kolkata at Priya Cinema.

This is also the debut film for lead actress Ayoshi Talukdar (who plays the love interest of protagonist Saheb Bhattacharya) and music director duo Loy and Deep.

It is about two brothers who embark on a journey to make a film that will fulfill their lifelong dream of winning an Oscar, the top award in the global film industry.

A period film, it goes back to 1983, the year Bhanu Athaiya won the Oscar for Best Costume Designing for the film Gandhi, and was the first Indian woman to win the award.

Priyanshu Chatterjee essays the role of the elder brother Rudra Chattopadhyay, while Saheb Bhattacharya plays Ratul Chattopadhyay, the younger brother.

The film has been extensively shot at Kolutala Ray Bari in Medinipur.

"Shooting for the film was an amazing experience," said Saheb Bhattacharya at the film's premiere, "30 out of the 33 days of shooting was spent outdoor. We were shooting at a Rajbari in Midnapore and the villagers would come to see our shooting. Every five minutes, Kharaj-da or Apa-di or Priyanshu or I would come out and wave at the crowd."

Veteran actor Kharaj Mukherjeer believes that the director hasi infused a fresh feel to the film.

"The director liked my earlier work and so asked me if I would do agree to do act in this film," said Mukherjee. "I read the script and thought it was on a different plane. So I agreed to do it. The film is very well cast, the locations good; the Oscar statue has become a character and I feel this will add a new dimension to the film."

“My character serves as a comic relief in the film," said Mukherjee, "a director who is nothing but a fraud who   knows nothing and pretends to be someone he is not.”

Tollywood headliners such as Indrashish Roy, Anindita Bose, Gaurav Chakraborty, and Ridhima Ghosh attended the premiere.
