Toronto: Directed by Daniel Roher and executive produced by Martin Scorsese, Brian Grazer, and Ron Howard, "Once Were Brothers: Robbie Robertson and The Band" had its world premiere on Sept 13, at Scotiabank Theatre, Toronto.

"Once Were Brothers: Robbie Robertson and The Band" was also TIFF 2019's opening night film on Sept 5.

The story of the film is based on the personal memoirs of Robertson and his early life in his hometown of Toronto and on the Six Nations of the Grand River reserve, in southern Ontario, which had led to the creation of The Band.

He wrote his first song for Hawkins when he was 15.  The Band later partnered with Bob Dylan.

Robertson is a member of the Canadian Music Hall of Fame, and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and is best known for his work as lead guitarist and primary songwriter for The Band.

"Robbie Robertson has inspired Torontonians for decades with his music and incredible talent for songwriting. A Canadian music legend, he has contributed to the establishment of a musical genre known as Americana. It's a point of pride for our city to witness Robbie's enduring influence on artists here and around the world. For his contribution to Toronto's arts and culture industry, I am proud to present a Key to the City to Robbie Robertson, " said John Tory on Sept 5 while presenting Key to the City to Robbie Robertson.

The cast of the film is Robbie Robertson, Martin Scorsese, Bruce Springsteen, Eric Clapton, Taj Mahal, Jann Wenner, Ronnie Hawkins, Van Morrison, Dominique Robertson.

Toronto-based Daniel Roher had directed short documentaries Survivors Rowe, Conversations with a Dead Prime Minister as well as the feature documentary Ghosts of Our Forest. Once Were Brothers: Robbie Robertson and The Band is his latest film.
