Aamir Khan celebrates his 50th birthday
Khan's debut film as a child actor was 'Yaadon ki Baaraat' which was directed by Nasir Hussain.
The actor who has been in the Indian film industry for over 40 years, made it huge with the romantic drama 'Qayamat Se QayamatTak' in 1988 starring opposite actress Juhi Chawla. He won the Filmfare Award for Best Male Debut for this film.
He went on to achieve box office successes through films like Raakh, Dil, Dil Hai Ke Manta Nahin, Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar, Hum Hain Rahi Pyar Ke, Andaz Apna Apna, Akele Hum Akele Tum and Ishq.
Khan won the Filmfare Award for Best Actor in 1996 for the film 'Raja Hindustani'.
He made his singing debut in the film 'Ghulam' in 1998.
The end of 20th century and the beginning of 21st century, Khan started his own production company named, Aamir Khan Productions. The first film under its banner brought overseas appreciation for Khan with his film 'Lagaan' being nominated for the 'Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film' category. It also won the Filmfare Award for the Best Film and Aamir won the Filmfare Award for the Best Actor.
Khan went on to do critically acclaimed films like Dil Chahta Hai, Rang De Basanti, Fanaa, Taare Zameen Par, Ghajini till the film '3 Idiots' boomed at the Box Office breaking all the records. The film 'Taare Zameen Par' was Khan's directorial debut as wll for which he won the Filmfare Award for Best Director.
His recent films Dhoom 3 and PK were both box office hits.
