Kolkata/IBNS: Bengali film stars Abir Chatterjee and Mimi Chakraborty on Tuesday kickstarted shooting for Raktabeej 2, the sequel to 2023 superhit flick Raktabeej.

Directed by Nandita Roy and Shiboprosad Mukherjee, the sequel, which will also feature veteran actor Victor Banerjee, was officially announced in January with a motion poster.

In Raktabeej, which had a run in the box office for over 100 years, Victor Banerjee's character was modelled after former Indian President Pranab Mukherjee, Abir had played a probe officer and Mimi a cop.

As per sources, actor Ankush Hazra, who had featured in an item dance and also played a surprise and crucial cameo in the first installment, is likely to continue in Raktabeej 2.

The film is scheduled for a release in this year's Durga Puja.
