After contributing to PM Cares Fund, Akshay Kumar now donates Rs 3 cr to BMC

Mumbai/IBNS: After contributing a significant amount to PM Cares Fund to combat the deadly Novel Coronavirus, Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar has donated Rs. 3 crore to the civic body of Mumbai.

Akshay donated the money to Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) to assist in the making of PPEs, masks and rapid testing kits.

He has also thanked the the BMC workers, police as well as governments for working tirelessly to keep people safe.

In a tweet, Akshay was seen holding a placard with a "thank you" message written on it.

Earlier, the actor had contributed Rs. 25 crore to PM Cares Fund, which has been created by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to receive donations to fight against COVID-19.

Few days ago, Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan and his producer-designer wife Gauri Khan offered their four-storey office space to BMC for quarantine purpose.

Apart from Akshay and Khan, several Bollywood celebrities including Amitabh Bachchan, Katrina Kaif, Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh, Anushka Sharma have come out in support of people in one way or the other.

Actor Sonu Sood has opened his hotel in Juhu, Mumbai, for the health workers in this trying time.

Issuing a statement on Twitter, Sonu Sood said, "In the tough times that we have been living & to support the national heroes who have been working tirelessly day & night, I open my hotel in Juhu for all the health workers. Considering the mammoth duty these heroes are doing right now, this is the least we can do for them. We are all in this together, lets all come forward & support them."

Over 6,000 people have been infected with Coronavirus across the country while 199 people have lost their lives.
