Bollywood legend Amitabh Bachchan turns 73

| | Oct 11, 2015, at 05:33 pm
Mumbai, Oct 11 (IBNS) Actors are often aped, and none have enjoyed it more than Bollywood legend Amitabh Bachchan, who on Sunday celebrated his 73rd birthday.
Born in the year 1942 to Teji and poet Harivansh Rai Bachchan, Amitabh's story is filled with irony.

In his initial days, he was rejected by several producers and directors due to his baritone voice and tall frame, something which became his USP later in life.

Bachchan made his debut in 1969 with Saat Hindustani and it was only two years later that he found success as Dr. Bhaskar Banerjee in Hrishikesh Mukerjee's Anand.

The role earned him a Filmfare Award for the Best Supporting Actor and there was no looking back, as he dominated the industry.

Bachchan has courted Bollywood and Hollywood with ease, and has worked with some of the biggest and most influential names in the industry.

He is also a recipient of Padma Awards. Bachchan received the Padma Shri in 1984, the Padma Bhushan in 2001 and the Padma Vibhushan in 2015 by the Government of India.

In 2000 he became the first Asian actor to have a statue installed at Madame Tussauds Wax Museum in London.

Bachchan is married to fellow movie star Jaya Bachchan and is the father of actor Abhishek Bachchan and father-in-law of actress Aishwarya Rai Bachchan.
