COVID-19 positive singer S P Balasubramaniam's condition 'critical'

Chennai/UNI: The condition of popular playback singer S P Balasubramaniam, popularly called as "SPB", who had tested positive for coronavirus and was admitted to a private hospital, has deteriorated and was critical.

A bulletin issued by MGM Healthcare, where he was undergoing treatment, said on Friday evening that 'there has been a setback in the health of Mr Balasubramaniam who was admitted to the hospital for symptoms of COVID-19 on August five'.

'In a late night development on August 13, his condition had deteriorated and based on the advice of the expert medical team attending to him, he has been moved to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and he is on life support', it said.  

He has recorded over 40000 songs in 16 Indian languages. 

He has garnered six National Film Awards for Best Male Playback Singer for his works in four different languages; Kannada, Telugu, Tamil, and Hindi; 25 Andhra Pradesh state Nandi Awards for his works towards Telugu cinema, numerous other state awards from Karnataka and Tamil Nadu.

 He is a recipient of civilian awards such as Padma Shri (2001) and Padma Bhushan (2011) from the Government of India.
