Lipstick Under My Burkha to release on July 28

Mumbai, June 5 (IBNS): After Film Certification Tribunal (FCAT) cleared filmmaker Prakash Jha’s Lipstick Under My Burkha, the movie is all set to hit the Indian silver screen on July 28.

Filmmaker Ekta Kapoor's ALT Entertainment will present the movie in India.

Film critic Taran Adarsh tweeted: "Not Balaji Motion Pictures, but Ekta Kapoor's other company ALT Entertainment to present #LipstickUnderMyBurkha... 28 July 2017 release."

Lipstick Under My Burkha, produced by Prakash Jha, is the story of four small town women chasing their secret dreams.

The movie had earned appreciation in several international film festivals so far.

Alankrita Shrivastava's critically acclaimed movie Lipstick Under My Burkha, which explores fantasies of some women in a small town, was earlier denied certification by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC).

The film has been reportedly denied certification for being a "lady-oriented" film as the upset filmmaker said she is facing the mindset of the patriarchy which she has challenged.

The makers later approached the Revising Committee and the Film Certification Appellate Tribunal (FCAT) for the film's release.

"The story is lady oriented, their fantasy above life. There are contentious sexual scenes, abusive words, audio pornography and a bit sensitive touch about one particular section of society, hence film refused under guidelines 1(a), 2(vii), 2(ix), 2(x), 2(xi), 2(xii) and 3(i)." the CBFC said.

The trailer of film was released on Oct 14, 2016.
