Kolkata/IBNS: Senior Indian actors Swastika Mukherjee and Tota Roy Choudhury will be featuring together in Hoichoi's upcoming web series 'Nikhoj' after a hiatus of almost two decades.

The poster of 'Nikhoj' was unveiled by the makers earlier this week.

In the web series, which is directed by Ayan Chakraborti, Swastika plays a woman cop, whose daughter mysteriously disappears, for the first time onscreen.

On working with Tota years after sharing screen space for the film '90 Ghanta', Swastika tells IBNS, "It was very enriching. Tota has acted very well in Nikhoj. His character is very layered with vulnerability, strength, weakness, honesty.

"I had a number of tough scenes with him in the web series. His energy has enriched me as an actor."

Tota, who plays a journalist in 'Nikhoj', almost echoes Swastika's words in saying, "I think Swastika is going through the peak of her excellence. The way she is being consistent with her excellence deserves appreciation. So working with her has enriched me."

The plot revolves around the daughter of DCP Lalbazar, Brinda Basu (Swastika Mukherjee), mysteriously disappearing following a party she attended with her friends. The well-reputed journalist, Romit Sen (Tota Roy Choudhury), who is both her favourite boss and mentor, is discovered disoriented and bewildered inside a vehicle that is stained with blood.

This gripping narrative unravels a macabre story involving forensic investigations, police protocols, romantic entanglements, deceit, lies, and the consequences of youthful indiscretions. However, at the heart of this captivating mystery lies a mother's agonising struggle to maintain her objectivity and sanity while her daughter remains missing.

Throwing light on balancing the emotions of a mother and a cop onscreen, Swastika says, "The balancing act of the toughness of a cop and a mother, whose child is missing, was the most difficult. I was always careful to balance the two emotions."

On playing a journalist, Tota said, "I observed news anchors, their on and off camera personalities during my research work. I didn't follow but designed by myself."

'Nikhoj' will be streaming on Hoichoi from August 11.
