Kolkata/IBNS: The shooting for Tollywood superstar Prosenjit Chatterjee and prominent actress Srabanti Chatterjee starrer upcoming Bengali film 'Devi Chowdhurani: Bandit Queen of Bengal' has already been wrapped up.

The film is an adaptation of writing legend Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay's novel of the same name.

Srabanti, a senior actress with a meaty body of work, plays the titular role in the film, which is directed by Subhrajit Mitra.

For her role, Srabanti, who has the experience of essaying diverse roles over the years, underwent training for a long time, IBNS has learnt.

From looks to attire to learning horse riding, Srabanti left no stone unturned in her bid to achieve perfection to play Devi Chowdhurani.

"I have never worked in this kind of a film. I always wanted to do a period film. It is very special to me," said Srabanti while interacting with the media at a wrap-up party held recently at a city pub.

Published in 1884, Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay's 'Devi Chowdhurani' novel tells a story of a powerful woman who goes out to fight out British rule at a time women used to remain behind the curtains.

'Devi Chowdhurani' was one of the novels written by Chattopadhyay giving a call to resurgent India against British rule.

With all his experience accumulated over years, Prosenjit, 62, plays the pivotal role of Bhavani Pathak in the magnum opus.

To play Bhavani Pathak, Prosenjit underwent extensive training like his junior co-actor Srabanti for the film, which has a line of actors in various roles.

"I had a long wish to work in an action film. It has materialised now. It was tough to do the action at this scale in soaring temperatures. But I am never tired of my work which I love," the veteran actor, who worked with Srabanti just last year in 'Kaberi Antardhan', says.

The film, which features Sabyasachi Chakrabarty, Arjun Chakrabarty, Darshana Banik, Bibriti Chatterjee in important roles, was shot in Kolkata, Purulia, Jharkhand and Bolpur.

Prior to Mitra's film, which is produced by Adited Motion Pictures and Lok Arts Collective, Chattopadhyay's 'Devi Chowdhurani' was cinematically adapted in 1974.

Bengali film legend Suchitra Sen played the titular role in the adaptation, which was directed by Dinen Gupta.
