Kolkata/IBNS: The trailer of veteran actor Victor Banerjee, Tollywood stars Abir Chatterjee and Mimi Chakraborty starrer 'Raktabeej', which is one of the major Durga Puja releases this year, is now out for the audience.

The trailer- spanning 2:30 minutes- shows Abir as an investigating officer on behalf of a central team while Mimi is seen in a never-seen-before look as the Superintendent of Police (SP), Burdwan.

Abir and Mimi, who are named Pankaj Sinha and Sanjukta Mitra respectively in the film directed by Nandita Roy and Shiboprosad Mukherjee, are on a duty to investigate a blast in West Bengal's 'Khoyragarh'.

Victor Banerjee as Animesh Chatterjee plays the President of India, who returns to his village for the first time since assuming the top post.

Though the makers haven't revealed much, the look and instances provide ample suggestions that Banerjee is modelled after India's former President late Pranab Mukherjee, who is the first and only Bengali to assume the top post.

Though initially the trailer shows Pankaj Sinha and Sanjukta Mitra locking horns over the probe, they later seem to accommodate each other for the "mission".

Speaking at the trailer launch, Abir says, "The trailer gives a better idea regarding the subject of the film. It is based on a real incident which occurred not very far from Kolkata just a few years ago. So the film has gained much significance."

On playing a cop, Mimi says, "I loved doing stunts. I was very happy. And the dialogues! They are more or less like me only."

Apart from Victor Banerjee, Abir and Mimi, the film features Anashua Majumdar, Satyam Bhattacharya, Devlina Kumar in pivotal roles.

Plot of the film

Inspired by the Burdwan blast in 2014, which shook up Bengal and also the nation, the film is about the homecoming of a man, who holds an important portfolio, and how an accidental blast in a firecracker unit unveils a bigger threat to his life.

On October 2, 2014, which coincided with Mahashtami that year, an explosion took place in a two-storeyed building in the Khagragarh locality of Burdwan. Locals informed the police, who sprang into immediate action.

When the police arrived, two women inside the building stopped them from entering, threatening to blow up the building and destroy several documents and evidence. They were arrested and the police recovered more than 50 improvised explosive devices in that house.

'Raktabeej', which is produced by Windows Production, is slated to release in Bengali, Odia, Assamese and Hindi languages on October 19 on the occasion of Durga Puja.
