The Russian filming block of Tina Barkalaya's new family drama Gems has been completed. Having shot in Moscow and Khanty-Mansiysk, the team now travels to India for the final part of shooting.

The colorful Indian landscapes, against which the events of the film unfold, will play a huge role in the story.

The film stars Svetlana Khodchenkova, Evgeny Tsyganov, Sergey Gilev, Irina Pegova, Era Ziganshina, Daria Poluneeva and others.

The general producer of the film is Ekaterina Filippova ("Hoffman’s fairy tales", "Nina", "The Man who surprised everyone").

Roman Mukhin, a Moscovite, works for a large steel company that sponsors an orphanage in Khanty-Mansiysk.

In order to advance his career, the management subtly suggests that Roman should adopt a child from the shelter. His wife, Elena, doesn't object – she believes that another child (they already have an older son, Oleg) will strengthen their marriage, which is going through a rough patch.

The Mukhins head to Khanty-Mansiysk and choose 11-year-old Martha Chemesova - a straightforward, aloof girl. However, Martha doesn't want to leave her hometown because her grandmother, Stalina Grigoryevna, lives there. Grandma loves Martha dearly, but realizing she can't care for her granddaughter anymore, she consents to the guardianship and convinces Martha to agree. Martha moves to Moscow.

Everyone is excited at first, and it seems like the beginning of a new family. However, the plan to revive the couple’s strained relationship doesn't work, as Martha and the Mukhins' biological son clash.

Despite a joint trip to India, a place Martha had always dreamt of visiting, she never truly feels like a part of her new foster family. In addition, after another fight, she's unjustly accused of stealing Elena's pearl earrings.

It would eventually come to light that the thief was really the Mukhins' biological son, not Martha. Nonetheless, Martha returns to her native orphanage, but she does so on her own terms.
