London, July 6 (BNS): In a thrilling encounter between two of the biggest names in the world of Tennis, Serbia's Novak Djokovic defeated Swiss icon Roger Federer to lift the Wimbledon title here on Sunday.

Lifting the second Wimbledon title of his career, Djokovic beat his opponent 6-7(7), 6-4, 7-6(4), 5-7, 6-4.

Seeking a record eighth Wimbledon title, Federer won the first set tie-break 9-7.

Facing an early jolt, Djokovic came back slowly into the match and finally clinched it  the end of an exciting final.

Ending a three hours and 56 minutes battle, the Serbian player recovered his nerve to fend off break points in the decider to win the title which he had earlier won in 2011.

"After losing the fourth set it wasn't easy to go on and win the fifth set, I don't know how I did it," Djokovic told BBC Sport.
