New Delhi, Mar 16 (UNI/IBNS): Rishabh Pant might have got some relief as the former Australian skipper Ricky Ponting has backed him over his poor performance in the last two ODIs against Australia.
"If Pant can win a couple of games for us, then everything will be forgotten. I can't see anyone better than him as a second wicket-keeper in that Indian World Cup squad," Ponting said.
The Men in Blue will be the main contender in the ICC World Cup, starting from May 30 in England. However, due to Pant's poor performance behind the stump, the team is in dilemma for the second option after Dhoni.
India's 15-member squad is yet to be picked and Ponting has said some good knocks from Pant for the Delhi Capitals would make him the favourite.
'I think it's actually a big job for me and the coaches to make him forget what's happened in the last few days. He's probably lucky it happened in the last couple of games, else it would have been hard to play all five games under that kind of pressure. Now, he's back in a competition, where he has dominated in the past,"
Pant has been termed as Mahendra Dhoni's successor, as the former skipper is likely to retire after the World Cup. The Delhi boy would get more opportunities to showcase his talent.
