La Paz, May 20 (Xinhua/UNI) A referee died after suffering a heart attack during a Bolivian first division football match.

Victor Hugo Hurtado, 31, collapsed two minutes into the second half of the game at the Municipal Stadium in El Alto, a city near the capital La Paz that lies around 4,000m above sea level on Sunday.

The game was briefly suspended as Hurtado was carried off the pitch on a stretcher with an oxygen mask attached to his face.

He was taken away by ambulance but suffered a second fatal attack before reaching hospital El Norte, according to local media reports.

Always Ready won the match 5-0 after fourth official Julio Fernando Gutierrez took over refereeing duties.
