India-Pak WC match: 9 booked for betting, Rs 2.6 lakh cash, 17 mobiles seized
Kaithal, Jun 17 (UNI) Local police raided the office of a travel agency in Haryana's Kaithal and took into custody, nine cricket bookies, who were allegedly betting on the World Cup cricket match, being played between India and Pakistan at Old Trafford Cricket Ground in England, police said here on Monday.
On a tip-off, a police team raided the office of Nain Travels on Dhand road on Sunday night and arrested nine persons, who indulged in betting, when Pakistan had lost six wickets on 166 runs in 35 overs, SP Waseem Akram revealed.
He said police recovered Rs 2.6 lakh cash, 17 mobiles, three notebooks, a calculator and an LED from the spot.
The accused were identified as Akashdeep, resident of Mata Gate; Saurabh and Deepak, hailing from Siwan Gate; Manik, resident of Kharadian Mohalla; Sandeep, belonging to Ambala road; Deepak, resident of Old Subji mandi; Chandan and Ashu from Partap Gate and Gurmeet, resident of Chhot village.
An accused, later identified as Sandeep, resident of Garhi village in Kaithal, fled from the spot, he added.
A case under various sections of the IPC and other acts has been registered against all the accused in Civil Lines police station here.
