May be Mohammed Shami was rested due to BJP's pressure: Pakistan cricket analyst

Islamabad, July 8 (IBNS): Days after former Pakistan cricketer Abdul Razzaq criticised India's "intent" in the England match, a cricket analyst of the country said men-in-blue fast bowler Mohammed Shami was perhaps dropped in the game against Sri Lanka due to the pressure from the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Speaking about India's decision to rest Shami in the particular match, the analyst said: "I wouldn't have dropped Shami. He picked 14 wickets in three matches (four matches). If Shami had played, also he would have set his own record by coming up to the top 2 or 3 in the best bowlers' list. May be he has been rested out of pressure from the BJP. The BJP doesn't want Muslims to succeed."

Shami had got an opportunity to feature in the playing XI after Jasprit Bumrah was injured.

In the match against Sri Lanka on Saturday, Shami along with Yuzvendra Chahal were rested. The two players were replaced by Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Ravindra Jadeja and Virat Kohli's men easily overpowered Sri Lanka to top the points table.

The analyst's comment came days after Razzaq hailed Shami referring to him as "a Musalman".

"Jasprit Bumrah, Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal are the wicket-taking bowlers but they didn't pick wickets. Mohammed Shami did his job. Moreover Shami is musalman which is a good thing.....England scored 337 so easily," Razzaq had told a channel.

India's loss against England had virtually crushed Pakistan's dream to reach the semifinals in the ongoing World Cup. Kohli's men will be up against New Zealand in the first semifinal on Tuesday.
