Abdul Qadir was a genius: Imran Khan

Islamabad, Sept 7 (IBNS): Pakistan Prime Minister and former skipper of the national side Imran Khan on Saturday described late spinner Abdul Qadir as a genius'.

He died due to cardiac arrest on Friday in Pakistan's Lahore city.

"Deeply saddened to hear of Abdul Qadir's passing. My prayers & condolences go to the family. Abdul Qadir was a genius, one of the greatest leg spinners of all time. And he was also the life of the dressing room entertaining the team with his wit & humour," Khan tweeted.

Khan said Qadir would have got more wickets if he would have played in the modern era.

"Qadir's bowling statistics do not do justice to his genius. Had he been playing cricket now with the modern DRS system, where batsmen can be given out on the front foot as well, Qadir would have gotten as many wickets as the great Shane Warne," he said.

Qadir appeared in 67 Test and 104 One Day International (ODI) matches between 1977 and 1993, and captained the Pakistan cricket team in five ODIs.

In Test cricket, his best performance for a series was 30 wickets for 437 runs, in three Test matches at home, against England in 1987.
