International Schools Indoor Rowing Championship inaugurated

Kolkata: The first Internnational Schools Indoor Rowing Championship organised by Bengal Water Sports got off to a colourful star with President of the Asian Rowing Federation Admiral Chainarong Charoenruk declaring the meet formally open at a nearly packed Khudiram Anushilan Kendra here Monday evening.

Director of Bengal Water Sports Shakil Ahmed informed that more that 1200  students, both boys and girls from different parts of the country beside West Bengal and neighbouring countries like Nepal, Bhutan, Bangladesh and China  are participating in the final round of the competition. They have ben qualified out of a total of more than  seventy five thousand school children who took part in the preliminar roundstake up top position. Separate events are also being held concurrently  for the specially abled  students.
Inaugurating the two-day meet Admiral Chainarong hoped that Indian oarspersons would take the top position in this continet soon. He was also very impressed with the number of particiapnts  . 

Secretary General of the Asian Rowing Federaion Rear Admiral P Pochanasom Burana, Chairman for pormotion and marketting of Asian Rowing Federation Captain Jirames and Vice President of Rowing Federation of India Chandan Roy Chowdhury were also present at the inaugural function.

Welcoming the participants and dignitaries, Chandan Roy Chowdhury, who is also Chairman of this meet, said this meet would go along way to popularise this game further. He hoped the future of Indian rowing would emerge from  thee participants.

The preliminaries of the final round were held today while all the finals would be held on Wednesday.

The inaugural ceremony was marked by a colourful Dragon Dance organised by city based India Hong Tek Fitness Club.
