Doha/UNI: India's ace shooter Tejaswini Sawant secured India's 12th Olympic quota in shooting after reaching the final of the women's 50m rifle three positions event at the 14th Asian Championships, here on Saturday.

Out of the eight finalists in the event, five of them were quota ineligible and with three quotas on offer, Sawant earned the Tokyo quota by finishing fifth in the qualifications, with a score of 1171.

China's Shi Mengyao of China topped the qualifying with a score of 1178 while South Korea’s Bae Sang Hee was second with 1176 points. Zhao Ruozhu of China was third with 1173 points, fourth was Fatemeh Karamzadeh of Iran with 1171.

Sawant has also been picked in the final shooting squad for next year's Tokyo Games, which will be her maiden Olympic appearance. She has also won many medals, including gold at the World Championship, World Cup and the Commonwealth Games.

In 2010, Tejaswani became the world champion in the 50m rifle prone event in Munich with a world-record equalling score. She was the first Indian woman shooter to win a gold medal at the Worlds.

The India team, consisting of Sawant, Kajal Saini and Gaayathri Nithyanadam, won the bronze medal in the event.

Earlier on Friday, Chinki Yadav won the 11th quota in the final of women's 25 m rapid pistol event.
