Sana too young to know about politics: Ganguly after daughter protests against CAA; BCCI chief receives flak

Kolkata/IBNS: After Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) president Sourav Ganguly's daughter Sana protested against the controversial Citizenship (Amendment) Act, 2019, on social media, the former skipper came out with a statement saying his 18-year old daughter is too young to know about politics.

Sana in an Instagram story shared an excerpt from Khushwant Singh's book The end of India protesting against the new law which will grant citizenship to Hindu, Sikh, Christian, Parsi, Buddhist, Jain but not Muslim refugees who came to India from Bangladesh, Pakistan and Afghanistan before 2015.

The Instagram story read, "Those of us today who feel secure because we are not Muslims or Christians are living in a fool’s paradise. The Sangh is already targeting the Leftist historians and “Westernized” youth.

Tomorrow it will turn its hate on women who wear skirts, people who eat meat, drink liquor, watch foreign films, don’t go on annual pilgrimages to temples, use toothpaste instead of danth manjan, prefer allopathic doctors to vaids, kiss or shake hands in greeting instead of shouting ‘Jai Shri Ram’. No one is safe.

We must realize this if we hope to keep India alive."

Terming the post as untrue, Ganguly tweeted, "Please keep Sana out of all this issues .. this post is not true .. she is too young a girl to know about anything in politics."

In a dramatic turn of events, Ganguly became the BCCI president in October while Union Home Minister Amit Shah's son Jay Shah was elected as the Secretary of the cricket board.

Ganguly faces criticism

Commenting on Ganguly's tweet, several Twitter users have criticised the former Indian cricket captain for saying Sana is too young to understand politics as the south-paw's daughter turned 18 only this year.

One Suryanarayan Ganesh said, "Never thought you will join the #Sorryvarkar उर्फ़ #Kayarkar brigade one day you are now truly a ordinary employee of Jay Amit Shah."

Another user said, "When life gives you a Ganguly , be like SANA not like SAURAV"

Saurabh Shrivastava said, "She is 18+ dada She is educated She can take her own decisions. She is well read. Please allow her the freedom you allowed to your players as a captain.. Will always be your biggest fan as a cricketer and captain.. Love you.."

One Ajita said, "Stop enforcing your own ideology on her. An 18 yo is old enough to vote. She’s not a kid. Has a mind of her own."
