Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli help India beat Australia in third ODI, India clinch series 2-1

Bengaluru/IBNS: Making a strong comeback after their defeat in the first game, Virat Kohli (89) and Rohit Sharma (119) led the batting from the front as India defeated Australia by seven wickets to clinch the three-match series 2-1 here on Sunday.

After restricting Australia to 286 for the loss of nine wickets, Indian batsmen came down with the purpose and entertained their fans with yet another memorable victory by reaching 289 runs by losing three wickets with over two overs to spare.

Known for his stylish shots, Rohit Sharma, who is known for playing evergreen knocks against Australia, smashed eight boundaries and six sixes in his heroic innings which made a major difference between the two squads. He got an able companion at the other end in Kohli. 

The Delhi lad hammered eight boundaries as both guided India nearly to victory.

Iyer contributed 44 runs at the end and remained unbeaten till the end as India clinched the title here.

Earlier, Steve Smith continued his strong run with the bat and smashed 131 runs as Australia posted 286 runs for the loss of nine wickets against India.After losing quick wickets, Smith took charge of the innings and stabilised the proceedings.

Smith hammered 14 boundaries and a six in his innings.Marnus Labuschagne, who is one of the rising stars in Australia, also added 54 runs with his willow.

Carey contributed 35 runs at the end.

Bumrah remained economical and gave away only 38 runs in his 10 overs. Mohammed Shami picked up four wickets but gave away 63 runs in his quota.
