I was frustrated: Shoaib Akhtar on bowling beamer to MS Dhoni
Mumbai/IBNS: Former Pakistani cricketer Shoaib Akhtar walked down the memory lane and recounted one incident where he had purposefully bowled a beamer to ex-Indian skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni.
Akhtar, who was known for his fiery pace bowling in his heyday, had bowled a beamer to Dhoni during India-Pakistan Test series in 2006.
Dhoni, who was then a young wicketkeeper-batsman, had slammed his maiden century in the longest format of cricket and went on to score 148.
In a chat with Akash Chopra on a YouTube channel, Akhtar recounted the incident and said, "I had bowled 8-9 overs in Faisalabad. I had a quick spell. Dhoni had scored a 100. Then I had apologised to Dhoni because I had bowled a beamer to him purposefully."
"It was the first time I had bowled a beamer. I should not have done that. The wicket was slow and Dhoni was hitting us hard so I got frustrated," he added.
Dhoni had also scored his maiden hundred in the One Day International (ODI) format against Pakistan.
In India's VIsakhapatnam, the then young cricketer slammed 148 against Pakistan's pace battery batting at number three position.
