Auckland/IBNS: New Zealand has supported the International Cricket Council (ICC)'s decision to postpone Women's Cricket World Cup to 2022, though it said it could have hosted the tournament the next year.

The ICC has postponed the 50-over tournament, which was scheduled to be held next year, to 2022 due to Covid-19 situation.

New Zealand Sports Minister Grant Robertson said, "We could have done it in 2021, but now we will look to 2022. As a government we have reiterated our commitment to supporting the tournament."

Earlier the ICC had postponed the Men's T20 Cricket World Cup which was scheduled to be held later this year owing to Covid-19 situation.

New Zealand is one of the countries which has tackled the Covid situation quite successfully.
