India beat SL to clinch series

Hyderabad, Nov 9 (IBNS): Riding on Shikhar Dhawan's brilliant 91 runs, India defeated Sri Lanka by six wickets to clinch the series here on Sunday.

After bowling out Sri Lanka for 242, it was Dhawan and other top order batsmen joined hand to reach 245 runs by losing four wickets with 35 balls to spare.

Dhawan joined Ajinkya Rahane (31) , Ambati Rayudu (35) and skipper Virat Kohli (53) in short partnerships which ultimately   helped the side easily win the match and series with two more ODI matches left in the series.

Dhawan and Virat added 70 runs in their third wicket partnership and snatch the match away from Sri Lanka completely.

Suresh Raina (18*) and Bengal keeper Wriddhiman Saha (6*) reached the target at the end.

Dhawan was the key performer for India with his willow as he smashed eight boundaries and a six in his knock.

Earlier, Sri Lanka were bowled out for 242.

Umesh Yadav picked four wickets while spinner Akshar Patel  scalped three to destroy the visitors.

Mahela Jayawardene scored a brilliant 118 runs while Tillakaratne Dilshan hit 53 to post 242 on the scorecard.

India took 3-0 lead in the series.
