Jammu and Kashmir: District Olympic Association Kargil call on Secy YSS

Srinagar: A Delegation of District Kargil Olympic Association led by Syed Mehraj Ud Din Shah called upon the Secretary Youths Service and Sports Ladakh Ravinder Kumar at TFC Kargil late Evening.

The delegation comprises International player and Sher-e-Kashmir awardees, Zaheer Abass Khan and Mohammad Ali and General Secretary Ladakh Taekwondo Association Anayat Ali Shotopa.

During the meeting Syed Mehraj briefed about the status of sports and sporting infrastructure in Kargil Ladakh and said that Kargil in Ladakh has been giving National and International players for Ladakh time and again in many disciplines, despite of having limited resources and infrastructure, players have excelled at National and International Level.

The most decorated Game of Kargil Ladakh is Taekwondo, which has given two Sher E Kashmir awardee, half a dozen International players, and dozens of national medalists. They said other games like Boxing, Archery, Karatae, Penchak Silat, Snow Ski, Ice Hockey, Cricket etc has also given national players and medalists.

"We have other disciplines also in which our players are doing good but with a little infrastructure or we can say only one Indoor Stadium and a Ground we have given a very laudable result."

He informed the Secretary that the District Olympic Association was formed in one voice after coming all the 23 affiliated sports associations of Kargil coming on one platform and hope that government will frame a dedicated Sports Policy for Ladakh with consultation with all sports associations of Ladakh. Syed Mehraj put forward the demands of DKOA on priority basis for opening an international level high altitude training center in Kargil keeping in mind the winter season focusing on Training practices during the winter months also.

"We have a great scope of Adventure Sports particularly Winter Sports and we have world class Slopes for conducting National as well as International Level Ski Competitions here in Kargil."

He also requested for Reservation in Jobs on the basis of SRO 349 for the Outstanding Sports Person, reservation of Seats in various Colleges Under Sports Quota, Formation of Sports Council, Construction of international standard Multi Storied Indoor Stadium at Biamathang with proper attention towards the winter Months,

Construction of Khree Sultan Choo Sports Stadium as International Standard with Astro Truff Facilities, Construction of an International Standard High Altitude Training Center with a Hostel facility of more than 500 beds, Construction of all weather International Ice Hockey Rink at Zanskar, Drass and Sankoo, Construction of Ice Hockey Rink and Sports Stadium in all Blocks of Kargil, Construction of Archery Stadium in every Village with proper facilities,

River Rafting and other Adventure Sports should be developed with proper training centers and facilities, Winter Sports should be promoted in Kargil focusing on development of Ski Slopes with world class facilities at Kargil Town, Drass, Tai Suru and Zanskar.

The Secretary after a giving a smooth listening to the demands of the DKOA, assured for all possible help to the associations affiliated with the mother body and assured to develop a Sports Policy in consultation with all Sports Associations.
