IPL: Rahul Tripathi, bowlers power KKR to defeat CSK by 10 runs

Abu Dhabi/IBNS/UNI: Riding on Rahul Tripathi's spectacular 81 and bowlers' performances, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) earned their third victory in the 13th edition of Indian Premier League (IPL) by defeating Mahendra Singh Dhoni's Chennai Super Kings (CSK) by 10 runs here on Wednesday.

Winning the toss and batting first, KKR were bowled out by CSK for 167 in 20 overs.

Apart from Tripathi's 81 off 51, none of the KKR batsmen could contribute big to the scoresheet.

Rahul Tripathi and Shubman Gill put 37-run stand for the first wicket, but then Gill was the first to go in the fifth over when Shardul Thakur took his wicket third time in three innings.

After Gill's exit for 11, Nitish Rana and Tripathi steered a 33-run partnership for the second wicket, however KKR went two down at 70 when Rana was caught at long-on by Jadeja in Karn Sharma's spell in 9th over. Rana 9 off 10 (1 four).

Since then, no other batsman could stitch a game-changing partnership with Tripathi to push the total to 200.

Chasing the target, CSK could score 157/5 in 20 overs.

Though Shane Watson (50) and Ambati Rayudu (30) were looking good to take CSK home, their dismissals dashed hopes for the yellow brigade as skipper Dhoni once again failed to fire up.

While Dhoni was dismissed for 11, Sam Curran scored 17 in the middle order.

Varun Chakravarthy, Kamlesh Nagarkoti, Sunil Narine, Andre Russell and Shivam Mavi have picked one wicket each for the purple brigade.
