RAB officials arrest man for threatening to kill Bangladeshi all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan for attending Hindu ceremony

Dhaka: The Rapid Action Battalion officials have arrested a man who allegedly threatened to kill cricketer Shakib Al Hasan on Facebook Live, media reports said.

The arrested man was identified as Mohsin Talukdar.

He was arrested from Sunamganj.

He was taken into custody from Ransi village in East Pagla Union of South Sunamganj Upazila on Tuesday, Lt Commander Faisal Ahmed of RAB-9 told bdnews24.

He went into hiding after law enforcers launched an operation to nab him, said Faisal.

“Mohsin was hiding in a relative's house.  He was arrested on the basis of secret information. He is now being taken to Sylhet," he told the news portal.

The man ha allegedly threatened to kill Shakib for attending a Kali Puja programme in Kolkata.

He came on Facebook Live in the early hours of Monday and verbally abused Shakib, threatening to hack him to pieces with a sharp object, reports the news portal.

Claiming that Mohsin is mentally disturbed, his elder brother Masum Talukdar, while talking to Dhaka Tribune, said: "Mohsin has been behaving erratically recently. He seems mentally unwell from the way he speaks.

“The family is ashamed of his actions. On behalf of our family, we apologize to Shakib, the pride of Bangladesh," he said.
